St. Augustine getaway

Because I got the weekend off work (which practically never happens. Ever.) Jenny and I went to St. Augustine! I forget how much beauty exists just an hour and a half from Gainesville. We spent the day walking through the touristy parts, eating the best fries on the planet (clearly they didn't factor in Five Guys'), playing with pigeons at the fort, and then spending the rest of the afternoon at the beach. Oh! And we had ice cream after all was said and done. Needless to say, we had a wonderful time. Here are some photos I took with the GoPro at the beach. I also took a lot of video so maybe if I ever get some time to edit it down I will post something else on here. But for now, I hope you enjoy our enjoyment : ) Peace!

Futbol and football

Wow, it feels like I haven't updated this in forever, but I guess it's only been about a week. I've just been super busy lately at the Sun and really haven't had the time. Today was a day full of sports, as I had to shoot the UF women's soccer tournament in the afternoon and then Friday night football after that. So here are a few shots I thought were kinda neat. Enjoy!

Showdown in Jacksonville

I went to Jacksonville this weekend to shoot the Florida/Georgia game for the first time ever. As a matter of fact it was my first time shooting any college football game, so it was a really cool experience. Even though it involved a 17-hour day with virtually no food and the Gators losing their first game of the season, it was still a fun time and a great atmosphere to photograph. I even got a decent shot of the crucial Jordan Reed fumble at the five-yard line that cost the Gators the game! I'm still really disappointed that we lost, but I suppose these things happen. After last year, I wouldn't have even guessed we'd be having this great of a season. Anyhow, enjoy!

More Friday night lights

As you may already know, shooting friday night football is not anywhere close to my favorite assignment. However, it is a necessary part of working for a daily and I have found myself getting significantly better at anticipating the action and capturing the highlights. Here are a few shots from last night's game with the Buchholz High School Bobcats (a local Gainesville school) and the Columbia High School Tigers. Columbia beat Buchholz 55 to 14.

Welcome, football

Fall is here, and with that comes football. The last couple nights I have been shooting Friday night, and Thursday night, high school football. A very difficult assignment as high school games are played at night and the lighting is usually terrible. Which means cranking up the ISO to keep my shutter speed high enough to capture the action. But aside from the technical difficulties, and aside from the fact that sports photography is not my forte, I had a pretty okay time. It's exciting to get better at something I'm not so great at, and it's hard not to get pumped up seeing hard hits and big plays. So here are a few photos from the past couple nights, and hopefully they will improve as the season continues! Enjoy.
